The boss of Williams F1 has said Qatar could host a Formula 1 race in the future.

Sir Frank Williams said the Losail circuit was good enough to be part of the pinnacle of motorsport. Bahrain and Abu Dhabi are already on the F1 calendar for 2009.

Williams told the Qatar Tribune that the sport had grown beyond the borders of Europe, where most teams are based and the majority of races are held.

”We have races taking place in Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, Japan, Brazil and China as well,” he said.

”In the Middle East, after Bahrain, Abu Dhabi will host the final race of Formula One season on November 1. This development augurs well for the sport.”

When asked if Qatar could host a race in the future, he said: “Why not? I have visited the Losail International Circuit and found the track good enough to host a Formula One race in coming years.”

Williams founded the Williams team in 1977 and since then has picked up 16 world championship trophies for both drivers and constructors titles.
