Ford develops dedicated police car
Ford has announced plans to build a dedicated police car in the US. The aging Ford Crown Victoria, beloved of US cops but now showing its age, is due to be phased out in 2011, and will be replaced with the Ford Police Interceptor. The car is being developed in conjunction with Ford’s own Police Advisory Board. Fords make up some 75 percent of the total police pursuit vehicles in the US. “We have heard the repeated requests from the law enforcement community to continue uninterrupted support of the law enforcement community,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of The Americas. “Ford is answering the call with the new Police Interceptor – engineered and built in America.” Ford plans to reveal the new model and provide full vehicle specifications in the first quarter of 2010.
