And Now Mexico Builds Its Own Sportscar!
by Nabeel M. Ferzan on Thursday, 17 July 2008

Think Mexico and what is that that comes instantly to one's mind? We get the drift. The country has proved it has more than the popular tequila drink and mariachi music to offer. Mastretta MXT to be launched at the British International Motor Show this month will be the first ever sportscar designed and built in completely in Mexico!

The sculpted sports coupé is a light-weight two-seater that weighs in at just 900kilogrammes and is targeted at an audience looking for a car under the £40,000 (AED300,000) mark. Power is derived from the 2.0-litre turbocharged Duratec engine developing a healthy 240 horsepower that pushes the it on to 100kmph from rest in less than 5.0secs.

The semi-monocoque chassis of the Mexican sportscar features aircraft style technology and is construcetd using bonded aluminium. Body panels have been made from fibreglass to keep the weight to a minimum and the air-conditioned interior is leather-trimmed.

Direct racecar feel comes through rack and pinion steering – 2.8 turns lock to lock. And 293mm ventilated brake discs with ABS as standard slow the car with eye-popping power, when necessary. Mastretta MXT has double wishbone suspension front and rear.

The company representative has said that the sportscar is limited to a total production build of 80 units in the first full year with production slated to start in January 2009.
