2009 Lincoln Navigator

The Lincoln Navigator is another re-badged Ford, this time it’s the Ford Expedition; just in case you were wondering where you’d seen this big SUV before! Now with the Lincoln touches, this very big car gets all the very best of the bling bling to appeal to the more middleclass drivers out there. If you like it large and you like it chrome, then the Navigator could well be the SUV for you.

First off, it’s very difficult to miss the distinctive double-decked chrome front grille, surrounded by those squared-off headlights, and while Lincoln have tried very hard to restyle the Navigator away from the Ford Expedition donor vehicle, they have, perhaps, taken this car to the other extreme end of style – styling for the sake of being different. However, the car does have an all-American look to it, and for some customers an SUV can only really come from America.

2009 Lincoln NavigatorAnother all-American aspect to the Navigator is the large V8 petrol engine that’s used to pull this behemoth around town. At 5.4-litres it’s pretty darn big, even for an SUV, and with outputs of 300bhp and 365Nm of torque, the smooth and silky performance should well be on a par with the comfortable appearance of the vehicle. Acceleration and cruising will be quiet and effortless, only its nonexistent aerodynamics will eventually slow the Navigator down. That bad aero will also have a marked effect on the fuel efficiency, but those buying a full-size SUV for reasons of fuel efficiency are very much off the mark.
