Honda Brings Latest Jazz Hatch to Middle East
by Udit Bhandari on Sunday, 16 November 2008

Honda Motor Co. Ltd has launched the new 2009 Jazz at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel at Dubai for the PAN GCC region. The Jazz which is also known as the Fit in some markets was first introduced in 2001 and has since become one the best selling hatch’s, selling more than 2 million units across 115 countries. For the second generation model, Honda has only bettered the existing car while following the same design theme which worked so well. Clever packaging, roomy interiors, easy driveability, good fuel economy are all values which the new Jazz carries forward.

The 2009 Jazz will be powered by the 1.5L i-VTEC engine (also used in the new City) that delivers 118 hp @ 6600 rpm and 14.8 kg-m torque @4800 rpm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift. The new model has a new chassis, re-worked suspension setup and electric steering and is expected to be a more spirited performer.

The new Jazz is also roomier than the model it replaces thanks to increased length and width. The new model also gets a longer wheelbase and wider track which would help handling coupled with larger 15/16 inch wheels/alloys on the LX and EX variants. Honda has listened to consumer complaints while improving the Jazz and this is proved by the much bigger front quarter-glass which improves visibility and reduces blind spots while cornering.

New conveniences include a new CD/MP3 audio system with USB, panoramic sunroof (option on EX) and a cooled glove box. Safety is adequate with dual front airbags, active headrests (front), ABS and EBDS as standard equipment. The new Jazz is also likely to deliver very good fuel economy, in the range of 12 km/l in the city and up to 16 km/l on the highway. The car will be sold in two variants, LX which will be the base model and EX which will be the fully loaded one.
