2009 Nissan Xterra Launched at Sharjah Auto Show
by Udit Bhandari on Thursday, 20 November 2008

Arabian Automobiles, the exclusive dealer for Nissan, Infiniti and Renault in Dubai and the Northern Emirates has rolled out the 2009 Nissan Xterra SUV at the ongoing Sharjah International Auto Show. In the 2009 model the Xterra now has a mildly re-designed front with a choice of two new grilles – a sandblast aluminium finish on X, S and Off-Road models and a satin chrome finish for the Xterra SE models.

The Off Road model now comes with body side moulding, rear differential lock, heavy duty Bilstein shock absorbers, BF Goodrich 265/75R16 OWL off-road tires fitted on new 16 inch, 5 spoke alloy wheels. This only makes the Xterra an even better 4X4 and increases its value proposition. Also new are standard rear AC ducts which are fitted in the centre console, new audio system with Bluetooth & iPod connectivity, leather seats and illuminated steering controls on the SE and roof-mounted curtain side-impact air bags for front and rear seat occupant head protection on all models. There is also a GPS navigation system on offer now.

All 2009 Xterra models will now come with a 4 litre straight-4 cylinder engine producing 261 horsepower as against the 291 bhp V6 on the 2008 model. Nissan seems to have chosen a more fuel efficient motor at the cost of a 30 bhp drop in power, which might just disappoint customers. The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission. The 2009 models interior features a new instrument cluster and new HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) switches along with new fabrics and trim for the seats and doors. Standard interior conveniences include power windows, power locks, power mirrors, remote keyless entry and cruise control with steering mounted controls.

On sale across the Middle East since September 2007 the Nissan Xterra is a tough SUV meant to off-road with and it is quite good at that too. The 2009 model only improves the SUV and makes the overall package even better value.
